I was born in Hobart and currently live and work in Melbourne. I am a painter and my work is an exploration of self-perception. I am interested in contrasting viewpoints of the self and one’s place within the world. I work with oil and enamel to construct paintings that explore feelings of alienation and psychological tension involved in human subjectivity.
The process developed includes the layering of enamel to produce sheer grounds, which incorporate a divide. This divide splits the background, in order to isolate the figure in abstract psychological space (the figure being either painted or the viewer reflection). The division is put in place in order to investigate the tension involved in attempting to simultaneously comprehend internal and external views of the self.
